Syðra-Kolugil is in the north west of Iceland only 2 ½
hours drive from Reykjavik, in a very grassy valley named Víðidalur. In
Víðidalur horsebreeding and sheepfarming is the most common way of living.
Syðra-Kolugil is very good farm for breeding horses as we own a lot of
land.
Our land reaches up to the mountain Víðidalsfjall in the east and to the
south all the way to the highland fence.
It´s a short trip for our horses go to the summervacation in the highlands.
In the Area of our farm we have lots of beutiful nature.
Víðidalsá is famous for two things, Kolugljúfur which is a 3 km long canyon
were two beutiful waterfalls Kolufossar
Kolufossar is named after the trollwoman Kola who lived in Kolugljúfur
catching salmons.
In a little hill just beneht the farmhouse of Syðra-Kolugil the tales
says that Kola have hidden her gold and everyone who dare to dig after
it will be cursed! The other thing is salomon fishing, people come from
all over to fish in Víðidalsá river.
The
waterfall in the canyon Kolugljufur
a popular riding route is to ride up along side the Viðidalsriver
to the waterfall Bergafoss
The
waterfall Bergárfoss that falls into the river Víðidalsá.
