Education

1988-1991 BA in Comparative Literature from The University of IcelandWhile literary theory is central to my research into late twentieth century horror fiction, the research is interdisciplinary in that it involves cultural studies and studies of popular culture.

Work experience
I am now a part time tutor at The Iceland Academy of the Arts, teaching courses in visual culture, cultural studies and popular culture.
I have been a part time tutor at The University of Iceland since 1996, and have run programs/seminars for foreign students on Icelandic Literature and Culture (in English), taught courses on Popular Culture and Cultural Studies, Feminist theory, Jane Austen, Horror fiction, Visual Culture, The Hero, Film Adaptations (in English) and The Cyborg (in English). I have also held courses at The Municipal Center of Adult Education and Institute for Continuing Education at the University of Iceland.
I am on the editorial board of the webmagazine Kistan, at www.kistan.is.
I was a film critic on the newspaper DV 1997-1999, a media critic on the culture program “Mósaík” for TV (RUV), 1998-1999, and reviewed literature and film for the culture program “Víðsjá” on radio (RUV) from 1997-2001. In 2000 and 2001 I reviewed literature on the TV news program “Kastljósið” (RÚV).
I was on the editorial board of the interdisciplinary reader Flögð og fögur skinn (ed. Jón Proppé), published by art.is, Reykjavík, 1998.
1999-2001 I was on the editorial board of the academic series ‘Atvik’, published by Bjartur and ReykjavíkurAkademían.
I was on the selection committee for the Icelandic Film Fund from 1998-2000.

I am a freelance academic, and a member of the ReykjavíkurAkademía (association of freelance academics), and also a member of the Icelandic Writers Association. I have published poetry and prose published in a variety of Icelandic magazines, some of which have been published in Danish in the poetry magazine Hvedekorn. I have also presented my work on TW and radio, and have two independently published books of poetry and prose.

I have given papers on various occasions, for conferences, courses and seminars.
I gave several papers on gothic literature at Trinity College Dublin and at the University of Edinburgh, 1993-1996. I have also given papers on vampyres and horror at the Nordic Summer-University, 1995 (in English), on horror films and visual culture for Institute for feminist research, autumn 1996 and spring 2000, on Icelandic literature at the summercourse for teachers of Icelandic, 1996 and 1999, on vampyres for students of Reykjavík grammar school, winter 1998 and Félag íslenskra fræða, winter 1999, and various papers on Fantasy and Icelandic literature for the staff of the Reykjavík Public Libraries, winter 1998 and 1999. I gave a paper on horror films at the Conference for the Center for Research in the Humanities at The University of Iceland, autumn 1999, and on City culture at the Open University, also at The University of Iceland, spring 2000. I gave a talk (in English) on Icelandic films for a conference held by The International Students Office, participated in a seminar on ‘islands in poetry’ in Son in Norway (in English) and gave a paper on Björk’s music videos on a conference dedicated to her, all in 2000. In 2001 I had a talk on horror and theater at Borgarleikhúsið or the City Theater, and gave a paper on Sjón’s novel Augu þín sáu mig at a conference on novels in The University Of Iceland. In 2002 I participated in a seminar on utopias at The University of Iceland, with a paper on cyperpunk novel Spares, by Michael Marshall Smith. I also participated in a seminar on women and work, 19. júní 2002, hosted by Institute for Continuing Education at the University of Iceland.
